Pyrus calleryana 'Capital' - Deciduous

Size and Shape:

A medium sized tree typically growing to 10 metres tall and 3 to 4 metres wide, Pyrus calleryana 'Capital' has a narrow, columnar shape with a strong central leader and upward curving vertical limbs.

As with many other Ornamental Pears, the Capital flowers heavily in Spring.  Flowers are white.  It is usually the last of the Ornamental Pears to blossom, but is also usually the last to lose its leaves in Autumn.  Glossy dark green Summer foliage changes in Autumn to orange, red and burgundy.

Uses in the Landscape:

A very hardy tree that is drought tolerant when established, Pyrus calleryana 'Capital' is great as a street tree or as a feature or fenceline tree in small gardens.

While the Capital Pear will tolerate a range of soil conditions, including intermittent waterlogging, it grows best in humus rich, well drained soil in a full sun position.  Has good resistance to pests and disease.

The Capital Pears are grown in a range of advanced sizes from 1.5 metre semi-advanced plants up to 7 to 8 metre plus Super Advanced Specimen Trees.  For optimal long-term performance in the landscape, they are field grown in Root Control Bags and container grown in SpringRing Air Pruning Containers from 25 litre to 1000 litre.  As our stock levels change daily, please enquire for current availability.
