Waterhousea floribunda (Weeping Lilly Pilly) - Evergreen

Size and Shape:

Native to Northern Coastal New South Wales and Queensland. Waterhousea floribunda is used widely as a screening plant, kept to a height of 4 to 5 metres with a width of 2 to 3 metres by pruning twice a year. Left as a tree, the Weeping Lilly Pilly forms a medium sized evergreen tree with a dense crown and a beautiful weeping habit, typically reaching a mature size of 15 metres, with a spread of 8 to 10 metres.

Features:

With its relatively fast growth and dense, lush evergreen foliage, Waterhousea's provide year round interest. Leaves are lance shaped with a wavy edge. Older growth is a lusterous dark green, while new growth is lighter, some leaves with a pale pink tinge. Clusters of small perfumed white flowers appear in Spring to mid Summer, followed by pale pink or whiteish berries that shed quickly.

Uses in the Landscape:

Tolerant of urban situations, Waterhousea floribunda is useful for screens and informal hedges, as well as performing well as a street or low branched shade tree.

Comments:

A native to Australian rainforests, Weeping Lilly Pilly's are fast growing if adequately watered. Prefers moist soils but will tolerate periods of dryness. Tolerates light shade. Less fruit litter than other Lilly Pilly's.
